Introducing Letour...
In the fall of 2014, LETOUR was founded in Tallahassee, Florida's Community Christian School. LETOUR is a performing arts group that consists mostly of high school students. Its members include actors, singers, dancers, spoken word artists, visual artists, and many more genres of artists.
LETOUR is all about making work that asks questions and exposes the intense anguish and happiness that fuel our need for a purpose and hope bigger than ourselves. Our main objective is to engage the community in discourse about Jesus through our performances.
Co-Create:
Collaboration is the heart of creativity.
In our Spring 2024 semester, the students were taught professional songwriting techniques and all of them did a wonderful job in their collaborative efforts to create beautiful pieces of music. The concept of Co-Create has always been at the heart of LETOUR, so producing an original only show with Co-Create as the theme for our 10-year Anniversary was such a wonderful tribute.
Our students are taught to co-create beyond the arts, fostering life with one another and using their current and past circumstances to create art, relate, dream, and hope. This teaching goes beyond the arts and is a gift from God. The students have learned to foster life with one another, recognizing that God is continually interacting and creating through us.
The semester culminated in a series of studio sessions in which the members recorded their pieces and documented them all in our final streaming album: Co Create – Letour '24.
Our Process
Each semester, the members of Letour work together to build a show centered around a core theme. Each show has 3 major stages: auditions, preparation, and performance. Take a look below for some more information.
Auditioning
Prospective members prepare a material for a brief audition in front of a panel of the semester's current members and Letour directors. After seeing each audition, current members and directors discuss among themselves to create the new panel of artists for that semester.
Preparing
Joined by the new members, the students have an initial brainstorming session in which they craft a combination of songs, dances, spoken word pieces, and more around a central theme. They then spend a large portion of the semester fleshing out the show, slowly adding and cutting pieces to eventually create the final product.
Performing
At the conclusion of every semester, the group performs their original show in a variety of places. While there is always a show at home in the Community Christian School auditorium, they also perform in multiple venues all around Tallahassee, and some day even further.
